Sudoku... an all-time favorite for many can be taught at a very young age.

What are the benefits of Sudoku?

  • Strengthens memory + attention
  • Improves reasoning
  • Improves logical thinking
  • Teaches patience

For this activity you will need:

  • Paper/cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Colors

How to:

  1. Decide on 8 images your child likes and draw them in 8 small boxes to use on Sudoku cards.
  2. Color the images.
  3. Divide paper/cardboard into 4 square cards. Divide each square into 4 boxes. Draw 2-3 images in each square card, depending on level of difficulty.
  4. Outline each square card with a marker.
  5. Cut each square card.
  6. Color the images in the square cards.

*Note: Every 4 images make one set. For this activity, you will have 2 sets.

Procedure: (Ages 3-4)

  • Provide child with one set at a time.
  • Set 1 includes 4 images: shirt, peach, star, and cheese.
  • Set 2 includes 4 images: box, kite, key and fish.
  • Provide the child with square cards for set 1 and the 4 images that belong to the set.

You can opt for all cards to have one empty box or two, depending on level of difficulty.

  • Easy: One empty image in the square card.
  • Challenging: Two empty images in the square card.
  • The child completes each square card with the missing image.

Challenge: Provide your child with both sets (set 1 and set 2) and all 8 image cards. Have the child find the missing images for each square card from 8 image cards instead of 4.
